When Christina Ohly and Alexander Evans planned to tie the knot in scenic Woodstock, Vermont, last May, there were lilacs perfuming their dreams. Unfortunately, with a particularly cold damp Spring Mother Nature had other ideas. The report from the locals was "nothing was blooming." Further south, however, lilacs abounded.

The theme of this wedding was "casual elegance," reflecting the spirit of the centuries-old town tucked in the green hills of southern Vermont. Roses and sweet pea provided the tradition and spirea and hellebores added the country charm.

The hors d'ouevres tables were piled high with luscious kiwi, purple grapes, and matching voluptuous French tulips. Orange poppies combined with orange peppers and granny smith apples brightened the cloudy day. Light blue mason jars and terracotta pots, filled to the brim with lilac and spirea, stacked on ladders and country benches helped to melt the corners of the tent away.

The cupcakes, dotted with an edible lilac dollop, made a sweet unpretentious, ending to a perfect day.
